The
officer may ask a person to perform a field sobriety test (FST). Apart from an
FST, the officer may also ask the offender to undergo a preliminary breath test
(PBT). This test is conducted to give an indication whether blood alcohol level
(BAC) is up to 0.20% or more. Unfavorable results may not be permissible in
court to establish offence but favorable results are permissible for acquittal.
Refusal to take Breathalyzer test at the police station may result in temporary
suspension of a person's driver's license and notification of refusal to the
Court or Jury.
DUI
is responsible for 41 percent of total traffic deaths in Florida. Statistics of
Florida DUI fatalities are collected by many organizations for a wide range of
purposes. While some organizations use DUI fatality statistics to muster
political support and funding for public safety measures, other DUI statistics
are intended for purely scientific purposes. Facts presented by DUI statistics
rank driving under influence as one of the prime causes of fatalities in
America. Similar statistics are applicable for Florida. DUI proves to be fatal
not only for drivers but it also endangers lives of innocent bystanders.
Statistics
have proved that introduction of strict and stringent laws have decreased the
number of fatalities arising out of DUI. This proves that the measures taken by
law enforcers have been successful. However, adequate care still needs to be
taken to further minimize the fatalities arising out of DUI in the state of
Florida.
